About me
Hi, my name is Hiwot Gizachew. I am a licensed professional counselor and founder of Nu Counseling Services. I earned my Master of Art degree in Clinical Psychology from Chicago school of Professional Psychology and have been practicing for over 9 years.
My therapeutic approach is centered in the belief that our circumstances are what shape the story of our lives and we each have a unique story to tell. I aim to help my clients tell their unique story to gain insight and develop greater self- awareness that leads to a healthier lifestyle and a greater sense of well-being. Whether exploring the past, present or future, challenging self -defeating patterns of perceptions, creating new solutions for dealing with emotional pain, healing from trauma, or enhancing communication within your relationship. My goal is to help you build a better relationship, both with yourself and others, use your emotions and not let them use you, build effective skills and strategies to meet your needs and wants, and foster self -acceptance and self -compassion.
I have experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families specializing in depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship distress, life transitions, grief and loss. I have experience working in residential facility, inpatient and outpatient settings, providing individual, group and family therapy. I also am working with children and adolescents who are experiencing social-emotional and behavioral difficulties at school. I use an integrated approach to therapy through a variety of modalities, including: Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Dialectical Behavioral therapy, person-centered, Trauma focused, solution focused and Internal Family system.
